essie 2013 winter collection

Being a self-confessed nail polish addict, it would probably surprise you that I've never tried anything from Essie. Every time I walk into Boots, I find a shade that I like but put it back instantly because I simply can't justify near enough £10 on a pot of coloured gloop. However, curiosity got the best of me and I picked up their Winter 2013 Collection. It's a good set to test the waters because you get three small shades for £13 rather than one for £8.

To be completely honest, I really don't see what the fuss is all about with these. The best thing about them is the brush; I've mentioned before that wide brushes are so much better to apply product onto the nail but the formula isn't all-that for me. It's quite gloopy and although drying time is superb, it just doesn't over awe me. I much prefer the Gelly range from Barry M and that's £5 less! Two of the colours in this collection are very similar - it took me a good few minutes to realise that one had glitter and the other didn't!

Shearling Darling is a deep, saturated berry with burgundy undertones that I like to wear especially in this cold weather. The colour is gorgeous but does need a few coats for a full colour and no gappi-ness. Parka Perfect is my favourite out of the three because it's so unique to anything else I've seen. It's a beautiful dusky blue with a nice, glossy finish. Finally is Toggle To The Top. Although I was impressed with how it's coloured and gives an even coat of glitter, I'd have much preferred a different colour due to it being incredibly similar to Shearling Darling.

Overall, not the best of the polishes I've tried. Even thought I wouldn't pay £8 for a bottle of the stuff, three minis for £13 is OK because I like the colours. What's your favourite Essie shade?

  2. I picked this set up as well and after trying them out for a bit, the colours chip just as fast as my €1 nail polishes so I'm wondering what exactly the hype is either

  3. I don't get the hype either! although most of mine are from the fragrance direct website (only £2.50 each on there!) so it wasn't too much of set back haha.
